TOWN HALL APPEAL
Canvass Teams Preoare
About 300 voluntary canvassers in 75 teams prepared yesterday to go on their rounds to raise money for a town hall in Christchurch. At a luncheon of Town Hall Promotion they were told by the chairman (Mr P. B. Watts): “We cannot afford to fail. It is now or never. We go into battle, and I think you will find the peoule of Christchurch a friendly foe.” Team members were supplied with lists of contributions to date, which remained confidential in the meantime. “We have barely scratched the surface so far.” Mr Watts said. Members collected specially-prepared kits containing contribution cards and information which Mr Watts said would be useful in making the canvass Mr Watts repeated that funds raised would certainly be used for a town hall. Similarly, the City Council would be proceeding with the building. It had given an assurance that it would begin the project when the money was in sight.
