Animals Depicted In Concrete

‘The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND, July 17.

A man whose ambition was to be a commercial artist and sculptor but. because of the depression in the 1930’s ended up being a panelbeater—“because it seemed more practical”—* is today working an animal mural in concrete at the Auckland zoo. He is Mr C. Story, of Newton. Most of the animals in the zoo—from Minnie the chimpanzee to Jamuna the elephant—are depicted on the concrete wall that Mr Story is ai present constructing. Import restrictions on model animals sold in the zoo memento shop will probably be solved by Mr Story’s ingenuity and technique. If his experiments in casting animal imitations in brass and aluminium are successful, the zoo authorities wil] buy models from him and sell them in the zoo shop.
