July <- Kochab, the New Zealand yacht, and one of the two competitors Jett in the Sydney-Noumea ocean yacht race, is now two-thirds of the way to her destination. The French steamer. Coranta, sighted Kochab. and received a report from the crew that “all’s well* today. The Corante gave Kochab’s position as 26deg. smin south. IMdeg. 30min east. According to a message from the second yacht, Malohi, Kochab was 80 miles astern and a 25-knot southerly was blowing. The Malohi is a 35ft Sydney sloop, skippered by a veteran yachtsman. Neville McEnnally. The skipper of the Kochab is Dr. Franklen Evans. Car Fire.—A unit from the Central Fire Station was called to a fire in a car at the intersection of Hereford street and Manchester street at 8.32 p.m. yesterday. The car is owned by Mr R. Harris, of 311 Linwood avenue. The wiring was slightly damaged. ; Marquetry Pictures.—Two marquetry pictures, the work erf a . former Colombo Plan student, Mr , P. Pavanaris, have been received - by the Christchurch Technical College Board of Managers.
