BUTTERFAT PRICE
Opposition To Reduction
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 4. In a two-hour address, Mr R. Woolerton, chairman of the dairy section of Federated .Farmers, told a packed gathering of farmers at Matamata this evening that he was opposed to any reduction of the present guaranteed price He said he was opposed to the policy that any Government loan to the dairy industry ,sho,uld be a debt to the dairy farmer. He said that he would “completely resist” any reduction of the present basic price of 36J d per lb of butterfat at a conference with the Dairy Board during the next few days. He said he was prepared to address public meetings all over New Zealand to indicate that slump conditions will occur if farm production costs are not fairly and fully covered. The individual farmer should wake up and take all active participation in his industry and make his voice heard in the disposal of his product.
Mr Woolerton warned consumers that the subsidy on butter sold in New Zealand will be reduced.
