£550 An Acre From Apples
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 3. Sheep were the least remunerative of all forms of farming in parts of Hawke’s Bay, said M E. J. Keating (Government, Hastings) in the House of Representatives today. The lowest annual return, £35 an acre, came from sheep and the highest, £550, came from apples, he said. Potatoes returned £4OO an acre. Other vegetables produced £2OO or more per acre. “These figures show the vital importance of retaining productive land for agricultural purposes,” said Mr Keating.
