Colour Bar At London Hotel

LONDON. July 3. A London hotel, where 30 American and Canadian bishops are staying for the Lambeth Conference, yesterday asked three American women to leave because they are coloured. The women, Mrs Edith Alsup, a doctor’s wife. Miss Elsie Archibald, a New York social worker, and Miss Lois Howard, a 33-year-old librarian from Florida, were found alternative accommodation.

reported the “Daily Express.” The manager told them it was a rule of the hotel that there should be no coloured guests. The newspaper said the hotel was the Goring Hotel, in the central London area of Victoria.
