NEW COMMUNITY CENTRE
South Brighton ' Project
Work will begin on the construction of a South Brighton community centre next month. The building, which will cost an estimated £7OOO, will be erected in the South New Brighton park, near the Beatty street entrance. The land was allotted to the South Brighton community centre building committee by the reserves department of the City Council.
With an area of approximately 6400 sq. ft., the proposed hall will be equipped with a large stage, dressing rooms, supper room and kitchen, and provision will be made for a film projection unit. When completed, the hall will be used for indoor sporting activities, choral society and drama club work, and for social evenings.
In 15 months, the committee had raised £2OOO, said the secretary (Mr H. Foster) last evening. Tomorrow evening, a concert produced by Messrs D. EUiott and R. Muir, to raise further funds for the' building project, will be presented in the Civic Theatre. Last year, Messrs Elliott and Muir presented a concert which raised more than £lOO towards the project.
