DOSING OF DOGS FOR HYDATIDS
“Opinion Not Ready For Compulsion”
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. June 19. The suggestion that farmers in given areas should have the option of making the dosing dogs against hydatids compulsory was made in the House of Representatives by Mr E. R. Jack (Opposition, Patea).
Mr Jack said that although hydatids was a terrible scourge and it caused considerable financial loss, he doubted if the time had yet come to. make the dosing of dogs compulsory. He did no’ think that public opinion was ready for such a step. If, however, a majority of farmers in an area were in favour of making dosing compulsory, further rapid progress might be nude. He therefore suggested that provision might be made for farmers in an isolated area, for example, a valley, whereby if a majority of them so decided, dosing in that area could be mad° compulsory.
