MOTOR-VEHICLE INSURANCE
Warning By Chief Postmaster “Motorists in their own interests should make sure that they take out the correct class of thirdparty insurance for their cars,” said Mr R. Elcock, Chief Postmaster, in a statement yesterday. “There are two separate classes for cars: Class 4 premium £2 2s for private use, and Class 5 premium £2 16s for business use. “Class 4 covers private, domestic or pleasure use and farmers’ cars, cars used for the work of hospi-als. charitable, benevolent or religious organisations and trade unions or incorporated employees’ organisations. This class also covers persons who take their cars to and from work, provided the cars are not used for business or personal transport to any other nlace of business during the day Class 5 is for straight-out business use including personal transport from one place of business to another.
“It may not be generally known that if a car is wrongly insured in Class 4 the insurance company can recover from the owner any personal injury damages paid in respect of an accident caused by his negligence.” said Mr Elcock. “Another point motorists should watch is that not all companies undertake third-party business. Those companies that do so are listed on the back of the nomina.tion form issued with relicensing napers. It is important to make sure that one of these companies is nominated and that its correct name is written on the front of the form,” concluded Mr Elcock.
