WEIGHTS FOR DOOMBEN

Yahabeebe Top With 9-2

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) BRISBANE, July 18. The New Zealand mare, Yahabeebe, top-weight with 8-2, will start in the Doomben Ten Thousand on July 5 and will be ridden by the New Zealand jockey. Grenville Hughes. Yahabeebe's owner, Mr L. Fisher, made this announcement today after weights for the next big Queensland double—the Doomben Ten Thousand and the Doomben Cup (July 12) —were declared in Brisbane.

The first mare ever to head the Doomben Ten Thousand weights, Yahabeebe has been given an increase of 21b on the weight she carried into second placing in the Stradbroke Handicap last Saturday. Turf writers envisage the Ten Thousand as another battle between Yahabeebe and the Australian filly, Wiggle, which won the Stradbroke by two lengths and a half. Yahabeebe will meet Wiggle on 71b better terms in the Ten Thousand over a slightly shorter distance. Wiggle, with 8-1, has been given a lift of 91 b on her Stradbroke winning weight. (She carried lib over at 7-6.)

The trainer, M. Ritchie, said Yahabeebe would not race again until the Ten Thousand. The mare would be kept at her peak with track training and a run in a barrier trial at Eagle Farm. "Yahabeebe is the type that does not want a lot of racing. She will be a better mare if she is kept fresh," he said. Hughes and Ritchie will return to New Zealand at the end of July, but there is a good chance Yahabeebe will remain in Australia for spring racing. Yahabeebe was not nominated for the Epsom Handicap. Ritchie said her spring mission would be weight-for-age events.

If Yahabeebe remains in Australia it is almost certain she will be trained by T. J. Smith.

The Victorian champion stayer. Sailor's Guide, has been given top weight in the £10,200 Doomben Cup after his spectacular return to form to win the P. J. O’Shea Stakes on Saturday. He has 9-8, 61b more than the Brisbane Cup winner, Timor. The top New Zealand horse in the cup weights is Monte Carlo, the dual Derby winner, with 9-0. Weights for the double follow:
