TREES PLANTED ON ROADSIDE
Hornby Woman’s Scheme
Through the Efforts of a woman, who is now encased in plaster because of a back condition, 38 primus nigra trees were planted along the grass vefge of Taurima street, on£ of the- new streets in Hornby, on * Saturday morning. Among those who assisted with the planting wa§ Mr R. J. Roberts, chairman of the Hornby County Town committee and deputy chairman of the Paparua County Council. Taurima street is part of a subdivision of more than 600 sections and it was about four months ago that the woman, Mrs M. Hancox, organised a petition among the residents of the street to secure the council’s permission to plant the trees. Every resident signed the petition and when permission was received Mrs Hancox arranged that each householder would pay 10s for a tree and a stake.
There were about 30 residents present when the planting took place..
