MANAWATU MEETING
First Leg To Panseron (New Zealand Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, June 8. Panseron confirmed recent good form when he scored a half-length win in the Winter Handicap on the first day ,of the Manawatu Racing Club’s meeting at Awapuni on Saturday. Panseron was never far away, and ran on strongly in the straight to beat the fast-finishing Russett. Chateau just beat Golden Cabana for third. The win favourite. Let’s Go, had a good run on the rails all the way, but faded in the straight. Picaroon was far too good for his opponents in the Stewards’ Handicap, winning by four lengths from the pacemaker and top-weight, Regal Crest. The winning double, Panseron and Picaroon, paid £4B for £l. The totalisator handled £72,942, as against £67.059 10s last year, an increase of £5891 10s. A. C. Messervy, rider of the winner, Movietone, in the June Hack Handicap, was fined £5 for causing interference to Lovely Chance (R. A. Jenkins).
