Desert Road Closed (New Zeaiana Press Association) WANGANUI, June 8. Over most of the area there was little wind tonight, but some parts, particularly the National Park-Desert road area, had occasional ’ violent snowstorms. The Chateau Tongariro was cut off tonight after a particularly heavy fall of snow. A foot of snow covers the Desert road, and motorists were warned not to use this route. About six inches of snow lay in the National Park township area, and although this route between Taumarunm and Taihape had not been officially closed, motorists were warned to avoid it if possible Another snow squall' during the night would isolate vehicles
