Tipping

Sir,—One read with interest, not untinged with awe, the pages devoted to the scenic and other splendour of the new Hermitage hotel; and not least the details of the Lucullan repast provided for the Prime Minister and others. But what does the visitor pay for these super amenities, and what is the attitude of the Tourist Bureau towards tipping—no mean consideration for those who cannot afford to keep up with the £lO,OOO a year Jones, and their wives, in this respect? As this is presumably a Government concern it seems that a definite policy on this point might reasonably be expected.—Yours, etc., PAKEHA. [The chairman of directors of the Tourist Hotel Corporation had no comment to make on either of the above letters.]
