British troops were called out and a curfew was imposed on Nicosia early today as a large crowd of Turkish Cypriots rampaged through the city, stoning cars and attacking motorists. A number of British, including two British service wives on their way home from a dance in a bus, were injured. Hospital sources reported three dead and 15 seriously injured. The premises of the Greek Cypriot Football club, Olympiacos, on the Turkish side of the communal border were burned down. Greek church bells sounded the alarm as more than 1000 Turkish demonstrators moved towards the Greek sector of the walled city. The troublb began about midnight when Turkish Cypriots gathered outside a Turkish information office, earlier wrecked by a bomb, and began shouting "partition or death.” Earlier, a ca- was set afire in the centre of Nicosia where the Greek and Turkish sectors meet. Greek Cynriot citizens, many of whom rushed into the streets in pyjamas, said the car was fired on by a Turk. Thousands of Greek Cypriots got out of bed, some dressed and others still in night clothes to arm themselves wi*h sticks and other weapons, ready to beat off any Turkish Cypriot advance.
