STILL FAITHFUL SERVANTS
Tiie day of the line old draught horse is not quite at an end yet. This six-horse team pulling a three-furrow plough was at work
on the Fernside properly of' Messrs K. and L. Brosnan at thei beginning of this week helping! to prepare 13 acres of land for’ an oat crop. Driving the team was Mr Ken i Brosnan, who has been handling teams for the last 17 years. Upi till this year all of the work »n the Brosnan farm has been done with horses, a four-horse team in addition to the six-horse combination being used at the rush times. Now a tractor is being used on the farm, and it was working alongside the team this week with Mr Lester Brosnan, who has been driving teams for almost as long as his brother, at its helm. There are still about eight draught horses on the Brosnan farm, but Mr Ken Brosnan says that they are becoming hard to replace, and their feeding is becoming a matter of some moment with chaff worth more than £3O a ton.
