AMALGAMATION IN PAPARUA

Electors Urged To Vote

Electors entitled to vote in the Paparua County amalgamation poll are urged by the county chairman (Mr J. H. Weaver) to use their democratic right and vote on the issue. The poll will be held on June 21. In a statement. Mr Weaver says: “The electors of the part of the Paparua County over which the poll will be taken are. I feel, fully aware of the proposal and it is for them to make their own decision.

"There has, at no time, been any suggestion by the remainder of the Paparua County that it wishes to see these districts leave the Paparua County and join with Springs and Halswell unless the people of those districts feel that such a move is in their own in-, terests. That decision remains theirs. “There is, I know, considerable interest in the poll, particularly in the Templeton district, where a good many additional residential enrolments on the county electors’ roll have been made before the closing of the supplementary rolls, and I would urge electors throughout the whole of the district affected to use their democratic rights of recording their opinions on polling day. The size of the vote is important to give a proper opinion of the views of the people on this matter.”

Learning from Animals.—"lt would be a pity if we were too proud to learn from animals. After all, animals and birds have natural abilities that we haven't. and we have only outdone them artificially by first understanding and then copying their powers and behaviour; for example, in learning how to fly higher and faster than birds. Until radar, their direction finding has been better than ours. And they don’t have wars.”—A psychiartrist speaking-?/ on the 8.8. C.
