CUSTOMS DUTY COLLECTIONS
More customs and excise duty and more sales tax has been collected in Christchurch in the two months of the 1958-59 financial year than in the same period last year. For May the figures for collections of petrol t&x, tyres and light dues all show decreases. The details, with the figures for the comparative period last year in parenthesis, are:— May: customs and excise. £420,980 (£366,524); petrol tax, £142,617 (£173.630); tyres, £252 (£366); sales tax. £230,929 (£201.295); light dues,. £1424 (£1812); miscellaneous, £1958 (£2591). Total: £798,160 (£746.218).
April-May: customs and excise. £754,405 (£662,854); petrol tax, £317,494 (£313,470); tyres, £499 (£489); sales tax, £474,097 (£366,387); light dues, £2483 (£2937); miscellaneous, £3730 (£4293). Total: £1,552,708 (£1,350,430).
