CUSTOMS DUTY COLLECTIONS

More customs and excise duty and more sales tax has been collected in Christchurch in the two months of the 1958-59 financial year than in the same period last year. For May the figures for collections of petrol t&x, tyres and light dues all show decreases. April-May: customs and excise. £754,405 (£662,854); petrol tax, £317,494 (£313,470); tyres, £499 (£489); sales tax, £474,097 (£366,387); light dues, £2483 (£2937); miscellaneous, £3730 (£4293). Total: £1,552,708 (£1,350,430).
