RECONSTRUCTION OF NANDI
Plant For Shipment To N.Z. Later
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 4.
Plant and machinery, valued at £500,000, now en route from Britain to Fiji for use on the reconstruction of Nandi airport will be brought to Auckland when the Nandi project is completed in 13 months’ time, said Mr D. B. Waite of the Auckland firm of D. B. Waite. Ltd., today. The Auckland firm will carry out the Fiji contract in conjunction with the British firm of Taylor, Woodrow (Overseas), Ltd. . Mr Waite returned from Britain yesterday after final consultations in connexion with the scheme. Mr Waite said about 200 of the 230 men who would be employed on the airport would be New Zealanders. The remainder would be key men from Britain. It was intended to work two seven-hour shifts a day.
