MAORIS BEAT BARBARIANS

38-8 Victory At Sydney

(Rec. 1.15 a.m.)

SYDNEY. June 4. The New Zealand Maoris overwhelmed a depleted Australian Barbarians side in a floodlit match at the Sydney Sports Ground tonight.

The Maoris won 38 to 8 after leading 11-nil at half-time. The Barbarians who lost the full-back, McKay, after 17 minutes, fell away in the second half during which the Maoris scored almost at will. The Maori forwards held command throughout the game in general play and were backed up by smart running backs. Tempers became frayed, particularly in the second half when players shaped up before the referee intervened.

For the Maoris, Emery (two), Bevan, Wordley, Walsh, Raureti and Phillips scored tries; Walters kicked two penalty goals and two goals; Blake kicked two goals. For the. Barbarians bidden and Lowth scored tries and Lumsdaine kicked a goal.
