HIGH PRICES OF POTATOES

Warning Given In Board’s Report (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 29. A warning against the danger of potatoes being priced off the market is given by the. chairman of the Potato Board (Mr W. J. Fletcher) in the board’s annual report “The maintenance of too high a guarantee, as well as bringing surplus problems, invites increases in costs,” the report states. “The cost of seed is one example. Another is the cost of land. “When prices are high, growers compete for the available land with the result—and it has happened recently—that land rentals are pushed to such a high level that only an exceptional season can enable the grower to come out square.”
