Girls’ High School Enrolments
It was probable about 180 new pupils would be enrolled at the beginning of 1959, the headmistress of the Christchurch Girls’ High School (Miss R. F. C. Tyndall) told a meeting of the school board. Sisters of pupils attending the school, would be given first choice, sisters of former pupils second choice, and daughters of old girls third. In the case of too many applications the following factors would be considered, Miss Tyndall said—the distance from the school, facilities for direct public transport, the availability of courses, and Form II reports. “There were so many applications for the hostel that I had to stop taking them half way through last year,” said Miss Tyndall. There were 12 applications for 1959. Officers elected were: —Chairman, Mrs C. H. Perkins; deputychairman, Professor R. T. Sussex; appointments committee, chairman. Mrs Perkins, Mesdames A. N. Mackay and Mrs M. Samuel. Professor W. R. Philipson; hostel committee, chairman. Miss O. Eslick, Mrs R. R. Beauchamp and Mr A. A. Glenday.
