Minister Appeals For Information

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 29. An appeal for persons having information on the shooting of king shags to pass it on to the police was made by the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Anderton) this evening. “It is high time irresponsible persons who think they can shoot a ny bird on sight are given the severe lesson they deserve,” he •aid. King shags, he said, were one of New Zealand’s finest birds and had been wholly protected for many years. This latest wanton destruction had taken place respite widespread appeals in the Wellington, Nelson, and Sounds areas to fishermen, launch, and yacht owners. The Minister said warning notice boards would be erected on local wharves and at the birds’ nesting places.
