CURRENT NOTES
Members of the Canterbury Women’s Club music circle held their first open evening for the year recently. The president (Mrs W.- D. Bunt) welcomed the guests. The programme was arranged by the musical director, Mrs Jean Scrimshaw, who chose works by New Zealand composers. The stage was set with typical New Zealand greenery and Maori emblems. Those taking part were: Mesdames K. Fogg (accompanist), C. Shaw, M. Wilson, A. Ledsham, E. Owen, N. Sherris, E. Broadbelt, N. Hunter. L. Bielby, M. Mason, Sandford, N. Wade, E. Garforth, N. Buchanan, Wildey, C. Wilson, Norman, E. Kennedy, C. Bull and Miss H. Mclntosh. The annual meeting of the jAcland Old Girls’ Association, held recently, was attended by 40 members. Mrs K. I. Armour presided and announced that during the year a radiogram had been presented to Acland by the association. Officers elected were as follows: patron, Miss J. Merton; president, Mrs J. Bain; vice-presi-dents, Mrs K. I. Armour and Miss ‘J. Leeman; secretary-treasurer, .Mrs M. D. Gillespie; assistantsecretary, Mrs I. J. Tweedy; committee, Mesdames C. S. Scott, G. F. Maples, C. .J. Cooper, W. R. Archbold, J. Hughes, Misses J. Fechney and F. Rodger. Mrs H. W. Rule, provincial president of the W.D.F.F., presided over the 25th annual meeting of the Belfast branch. She congratulated the president (Mrs M Finch) and members on their report of the year’s activities and also on the help given to outside organisations and charities. The following officers were elected:— President, Mrs M. Finch; vicepresidents. Mrs P. Johnson and Mrs H. Dea vol); secretary, Mrs R. Barnes: treasurer, Mrs R. Halligan; committe. Miss M. Crawford. Mesdames R. Don, D. Inch, A. Mitchell, W. Waites, C. Arps; voting delegates, Mrs M. Finch, Mrs R. Barnes, Mrs R. Halligan; judge of competition, Mrs A. J. Smith; steward of competitions, Miss M Crawford; sales table, Mrs M. Ludwig; sick visitor, Mrs W. Waites; advisory, Mrs M. Finch and Mrs G. Salt. The winner of the Eileen Freeman Cup, for most points in all sections, was Miss M. Crawford. Members of the Christchurch branch of the New Zealand League for the Hard of Hearing were entertained yesterday by a concert party organised by Mrs R. S. Storie. Those taking part were Mesdames P. Hill, G. Harrall, D. Pashby and R. S. Storie.
