Racing DISPERSAL SALE AT DUNEDIN
Top Price 70 Guineas (New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, April 29. The race mare Russleigh, Lady Wanaka, joint holder of the Wingatui track record for a mile and three furlongs, and Maereana, dam of the Wellington Cup winner. Reformed, failed to reach the reserve at the dispersal sale of thoroughbreds offered by Mr A. J. Brown at Wingatui today. Of the 36 lots offered, 32 changed hands for a total of 960gns. It was a buyers’ sale. The best price paid for the young stock was 60gns, for a yearling filly by Foxshar from the Royal Chief mare. Esme. A neatly-made filly by the same sire, from Lady Wanaka, fell to the bid of Mr G. Murdoch, of Blackhead. Dunedin, for 50gns. Mrs J. C. Angell, of North Balclutha, was the most active buyer at the sale, taking three brood mares. She purchased Cassock Lass for 65gns, Esme for 50gns, and Air Sonnet for 40gns. Lucky Lynn, with a Foxshar foal at foot, was one of the top-priced brood mares. She was purchased byMr I. F. Hurring, of Wingatui, for 65gns. The seven-year-old Postcard, by Paper Boy from Golden Hope, made the top price in the racehorse section. At 70gns, he passed to Mr C. E. Leighton, of Waimate. A pacing colt, a . two-year-old half-brother by Prince Regent to the recent winner. General Mark, fell to the bid of 50gns made by Mr H. E. Bauchop, of Dunedin. Russleigh was passed in at 225gns. The reserve was 500gns. Lady Wanaka was passed in at 140gns, and Maereana, with a filly foal at foot by Foxshar, was passed in at 80gns. There was a ready sale for all types of racing gear. Cold and blustery weather made conditions unpleasant for the 200 spectators.
