BOYS SWINGING ON GOALPOSTS
Request Made For Restraint
When attention was drawn to unsatisiactory goalposts on grounds at Hagley Park, me president of the Canterbury Football Association (Mr J. Smith), at its meeting last evening, said that the troutue was caused by boys swinging on the crossbars. Ine association had to ask clubs to correct the faults, but it was not the clubs’ fault. It was decided to ask those in charge of boys’ games to keep the boys off the posts. Advice was received from the New Zealand Football Association that inquiries had been received from the British University Sports Board regarding the possibility of a tour of New Zealand. Mr N. Wood, delegate from the Canterbury Referees Association, asked if there was any possibility of obtaining dressing sheds for the soccer grounds at Malvern Park and Polo Grounds. There were sheds, but they were not located near the soccer grounds. It was decided to make a donation of £3 3s to the Empire Games Appeal Fund. Mr T. McFall, delegate from the Junior Management Committee, reported that only 18 balls had been made available by the New Zealand Association at the reduced rate, and already the committee had receivd 23 applications from schools for balls. It’ was expected that there would be at least another 12. He appealed for a grant to assist with the purchase of these balls. It was decided that rather than make a special grant at this stage, the sum of £lOO would be granted to the committee against the expected return from the levy on clubs. Mr McFall also appealed for referees for the competition conducted by private schools on Thursdays at 2.30 p.m. It was decided to ask clubs for assistance.
