MOA HUNTERS’ VILLAGE

Archaeologist’s Find Near Wellington (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 29. A Wellington archaeologist, Mr Bruce Palmer, has discovered the remains of a moa hunters village on the beach near Orongorongo river, a few miles easl of Wellington Harbour. The site, which has not yet been excavated, has already yielded moa hunter implements. “Most important and rare piece was an adze of the extremely uncommon circular type in black argillite,” said Mr Palmer today. ‘‘As far as I know this is only the second round adze found in the North Island.’*
