TRANSPORT BOARD OFFICE

Building In Square For Sale The Christchurch Transport Board yesterday decided to place on the market for sale the threestorey building it owns in the south-west corner of Cathedral square and make arrangements to move its headquarters to Fitzgerald avenue, where new premises would be built at some future date. Some time ago the board decided that the admirdstration of the undertaking would result in greater efficiency if the site of the administration was adjoining the workshop premises. It was decided that the new administrative block would be built from the proceeds of the sale of the board’s office block in the Square. As the Lyttelton Harbour Board, which,rents space in the tram wav building, will be moving to its new offices in Chester street some time towards the end of this year or the beginning of next year, the finance committee of the Transport Board recommended that the Square block should be offered for sale on the understanding that mutual arrangements can be made for the board to remain a tenant until such time as its new office buildings have been constructed. Effective Supervision The board agreed to this recommendation and instructed the general manager (Mr J. F.
