Hockey PAKISTAN BEATS TARANAKI, 12-1
Hamid Scores Seven Goals (New Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, April 28. With brilliant stickwork and superior pace Pakistan coasted home to a 12 goals to 1 win over Taranaki in an outstanding display of hockey at New Plymouth today. Pakistan led 5-0 at half-time. The Pakistanis seemed to know exactly where their team-mates would be and with stickwork, so quick and clever that the Taranaki defence was several times left groping rather more hopefully than purposefully, soon established an unshakable grip on the game. The magnitude of Taranaki’s task was only too obvious. Pakistan constantly played to the Inimitable A. Hamid in the circle, and he was always there, never covering unnecessary ground. It was Hamid, rather than the centreforward, Zaka, who was the master tactician in the forwards. For Pakistan, goals were scored by Hamid (7), Zaka (3), and N. Alam and U. Muti. L. Morgan scored Taranaki’s goal.
