TRANSPORT rate BOUNDARIES
“Time For Over-All Review” The time was rapidly approaching when the Transport Board would have to review its boundaries, the chairman (Mr C. C. Holland) told a meeting of the board yesterday afternoon. Mr Holland said that thia should not be done sectionally, or piecemeal, but completely and in one swoop. He was speaking during an application by north Bryndwi residents for a bus route extension and after the general manager (Mr J. F. Fardell) had informed the meeting that part of the area to which the extension was sought was not in the Christchurch tramway rating district The Bryndwr request was that the board should service two new areas in the growing housing settlements between Ilaih road and Greers road and north of Greers road astride Wairakei road. An extension of 1.4 miles was asked for from Aorangi road beyond Greers road to Breens road. Mr Fardell said that not all the Breens road area was in the Christchurch tramway rating district. . “I hope the people in this area appreciate the board is functioning at a loss and ratepayers have to make up the loss;’’ said Mr Holland. “The board is hesitant to introduce services to people outside the rating area.” Mr Holland said his owni per? sonal view was that the time wa| rapidly approaching when. bound* aries should be reviewed alto-, gether and not piece by piece as route extension applications were considered. Mr W. S. Mac Gibbon: J agree with that. A survey has been made in the north Bryndwr area by the board which decided to defer decision on the residents’ application until more investigation had been made and more opportunity for consideration had been allowed members.
