REGULATIONS FOR TAXIS

Auckland Drivers Concerned (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 28. The possibility of new regulations being attached 'to their licences when they are renewed shortly by the Metropolitan Licensing Authority is causing concern among Auckland taxi operators. The authority’s proposals, a taxi driver said, included the “tagging” of all licences, insistence on uniform dress being worn by drivers and a uniform colour for all taxis. The “tagging” of licences requires operators to drive their taxis personally for at least 40 hours a week, spread over five days, to keep a log-book showing hours worked and mileage, and to accept no tourist work beyond the Auckland Transport Board’s district that would keep them away from the city for more than two consecutive days.
