FUTURE OF T.E.A.L

Talks Still In Progress

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 28. The Prime Minister (Mr Nash) said tonight that discussions on the future of Tasman Empire Airways, were still continuing. Earlier this month, Australian and New Zealand delegations discussed replacement aircraft for the company and it was reported in the newspapers that the conference had decided in favour of United States Lockheed Electra aircraft instead of De Havilland Comets, said Mr Nash. Publication of an official communique on the conference was delayed until it could be submitted to both the Australian and New Zealand Governments.

“We have never stopped having discussions,” said Mr Nash this evening when asked to comment on a report that the British Government had protested about the decision to buy Electras. He knew nothing of any protest, he said. The Prime Minister said he hoped the discussions would result in satisfaction to all the parties involved. He had no doubt the New Zealand overseas airways connexion would be maintained through T.E.A.L.
