NEXT SOVIET SPUTNIK
“Orbit Of Moon And Earth" (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, April 14. The next sputnik Soviet scientists launch will make an enormous orbit of both the earth and moon, according to the Hungarian youth newspaper “Agyar Ifjusag.” The American Associated Press has said that the newspaper quoted a Soviet scientist, Professor Varvarov, as saying that Sputnik Ill’s launching was imminent. It would leave the earth at a rate of nearly seven miles a second, as against five miles a second by its two predecessors. "Magyar Ifjusag" quoted Professor Varvarov as saying: “While it is not yet possible to send a rocket to the moon and back, it has been established that an artificial satellite can orbit both the earth and the moon. “Its orbit would be an extended elipse whose lower point would be round the earth and the upper point round the moon.” The new sputnik would weigh betwen five and six tons, compared with about half a ton for the second Russian satellite.
