Japonica Given To Trainer
(New Zealana Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 15. The Invercargill racehorse owner, Mr M. A. McKenzie, has decided to give the £4500 Ellerslie Easter Handicap winner, Japonica, to her trainer, F. Cobb. Cobb, who has prepared Japonica for all of her most important wins, said today that Japonica will have only two more races. These will be in middle distance events, and will probably include the Foley Memorial at the Avondale Jockey Club’s autumn meeting on Saturday week. Then Japonica will be transferred to Cobb’s ownership. She will be retired and mated with the imported French sire, Gabador. The first foal will be raced by Mr McKenzie. Japonica has won £13,912 in stakes as the result of 12 wins and 31 placings for 89 starts. Her win in the Easter Handicap was her most important success.
