CLUB ORGANISER FOR 21 YEARS
Presentation To Mrs A. J. Benzie
When the Canterbury Travel Club celebrated its twenty-first birthday at a luncheon at the Winter Garden yesterday, special tribute was paid to Mrs A. J. Benzie, who has been honorary organiser since the club’s inception.
In a review of the organisation’s work, Mrs Cecil Wood referred to the club as Mrs Benzie’s “baby.” “She has helped it through its teething troubles and the dangers of adolescence to adulthood. I can safely say that Mrs Benzie’s guidance and love have raised the club to its present level of success with 700 members and a waiting list,” Mrs Wood Sadi. 1 A fireside chair of mushroom coloured uncut moquette and a bouquet were presented to Mrs Benzie by the treasurer (Mrs Hugh Fraer) on behalf of club members. Mrs Benzie, who was escorted to the stage by the Speaker of the House of Representatives (Mr R. M. Macfarlane), thanked members for their support in entertaining visitors and raising funds for community projects. “The Canterbury Travel Club is really part of my life,” Mrs Benzie said.
