Cricket Farewell Luncheon For N.Z. Team
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. April 11. The members of the New Zealand cricket team to ’tour England were the guests toda.v of the New Zealand Cricket Council at a farewell luncheon. Mr T. W. C. Toth ill, the president of the council, proposed the toast to the team, and the manager. Mr J. H. Phillips, replied. Mr Tothill said the tealn would find the English very strong, particularly In bowling, but if it played bright cricket and showed its hosta that it had something to offer,»then it would be a success. After the team’s display in the recent match at Eden Park he felt that it would play attractive cricket. A lot of the fun had gone out nf sport. Mr Tothill added. Fresh in h : s mind were the Rugbv tests against the Springboks, were nothing more than a battle. He hoped the team would bring back some of the fun. The team will leave from Whenuapai by air at 9.30 a.m. tomorrow for Sydney. It will arrive in England on Tuesday and will play its first game, a second class match against the New Zealand Cricket Club, on Thursday. The tour will open offl- 1 [dally on April 30.
