COUNTRY WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
Annual Meetings Held Country Women’s Institutes in town and country districts held their annual meetings recently to elect officers and to discuss the year’s work. They include:— Bromley.—Mrs Streeter presided at the annual meeting of the Bromley Country Women’s Institute and welcomed Mrs C. D. Newton, president of the Canterbury Federation of Women’s Institutes. Officers were elected as follows:—President, Mrs Streeter: secretary. Mrs Thomas: treasurer. Mrs Malaquin; committee, Mesdames Malaquin, Leonard, Hill. Rayner. Thomas, Teale, Whiting, and Righton. Bryndwr.—The president (Mrs Menzies) welcomed Mrs Kellaway (voluntary organiser) to the annual meeting of Bryndwr Country Women’s Institute. The following officers were elected: — President. Mrs Menzies: vice-pre-sidents. Mesdames Morton. Whitfield: secretary, Mrs Holmes: minute secretary, Mrs Comley; treasurer, Mrs Brown; committee. Mesdames McFarlane. Wallace. Smales. Binning, Ellena. Howell. Mazey. Burwood. —Mrs C. D. Newton presided at the annual meeting of the Burwood Country Women's I Institute. The following officers were elected: —President, Mrs Newton: vice-presidents. Mesdames Anderson and Maslin; secretary. Mrs Cronin: treasurer, Mrs Doughty; committee. Mesdames Welsh. Griffiths, Drabble. Kilgour Woodley. Riley. Starr, and Moore. An annual prize for the most successful competition entries was won by Mrs A. Taylor and in the floral art section by Mrs Ramsay Christchurch Centre. —The annual meeting of the Christchurch Centre of Country Women’s Institutes was held recently when Mrs O. Bain presided. Officers were elected as follows: —President, Mrs O. Keen: vice-presidents. Mesdames Bain and Rae: secretary. Mrs Merry; treasurer, Mrs Mason; committee. Mesdames Bain. Beatty, Davidson. Ford. Hales. Mason, Merry, Rae. Small Weaver, and Miss A. Trounce. Hillsborough.—>The annual meeting of Hillsborough - Heathcote Country Women’s Institute was held recently. Mrs Candy gave a talk on the work of institutes and the following officers were elected: —President, Mrs ’ W Deavoll: secretary. Mrs Pitheram; treasurer. Miss G. Davidson; committee, Mesdames Laing. Rae. Taylor. McFee. McDowall, Grieve Forrester. Henry. Lauden. Aspinal Smith. Deavoll and Miss Martin Coalgate.—A farewell gift and a spray were presented to Mrs Kellaway at The annual meeting of the Coalgate Country Women’s Institute. Mrs Anderson, representing the Canterbury Federation of Women’s Institutes, presented snnual awards to the following: Flooms. Mrs Price; floral decoration. Mrs Green, handcraft. Mrs Marker: homecraft. Mrs Kellaway: most consistent competitor. Mrs E. Charles. Officers were elected as follows:—President. Mrs Green: secretary. Mrs W. E. Charles: treasurer. Mrs Robertson: committee, Mesdames Picard Stuart, Knight, Marker. Gahagan and Joyce.
The president (Mrs J. Fowler) presided at the April meeting of the Riccarton Townswomen’s Guild. Mrs Reeves and her party entertained with songs, duets and elocution items. Arts and crafts were demonstrated by Mesdames Stout and Hodge.
