Basketball Today

The Canterbury . Basketball Association will open its season today. All teams will take part in. a parade, led by West Coast Old Girls, winner of the senior grade last season. Trophies won last season will be presented by the patroness of the association (Mrs R. M. Macfarlane). A demonstration of the proposed seven-a-side game will be given by pupils of St. Margaret’s College, trained by Miss M. Cooper, who is a former international net-ball player. All teams will play grading matches. Special interest will be taken in the game between Mataura and St. Nicholas. As winner of the senior reserve last season. St. Nicholas will play Mataura for a place in the senior competition. The senior diaw is Mataura v. St. Nicholas. Digby’s v. Sacred Heart, West Old Girls v. Kakatai, Technical v. Teachers’ College. Digby’s will also play the winner of the . grading match to see if the winner is up to senior •tandard.
