Murder Charge In Canada
(Rec. 0 p.m.) CARDSTON (Alberta) April 10. A 28-year-old daughter of a paramount chieftainess of Raratonga, was charged in the Card* ston Court today with murdering her eight-year-old daughter. The woman, Mrs Veia Love Lowry, who came to Cardston five years ago to marry Gilbert Lowry, was charged with the murder of Blondie Tahau Lowry. Mr Lowry, a missionary in the South Pacific eight years ago, now is a greenhouse operator and a carpenter. Blondie, who had been in Canada less than two months, died in a Calgary hospital on Monday night. A post-mortem showed the child had died from head and body injuries. The police chief, Mr Garth Albiston, who laid the charge, said her body had been burned from the neck to the knees as though an electric toaster had been pressed against her. The coroner. Dr. James Nixon, said the girl’s body was covered with burns and bruisbs. The parents took Blondie to the Calgary Hospital on Friday after the child had been given first aid in nearby Lethbridge. Police said the parents had told them that Blondie had fallen against an oil heater in their home.
Mrs Lowry was born in New Zealand but was taken to Raratonga by her father, who was a Lieutenant-Colonel in the Maori Battalion. He was killed in 1942 Mrs Lowry went to New Zealand eight months ago to study genealogy and she returned less than two months ago with the child.
