SCHOOLGIRL’S DEATH

(Rec. 11.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, April 11. Police' today charged John Charles Smith, a 29-year-old labourer, with murdering a 14-year-old pupil of the Methodist Ladies’ College early today. The dead girl, Margaret Thomas, was found lying stabbed to death in a park a half mile from the exclusive school from which she was taken about 2 a.m. today. Two months ago a man armed with a' knife attacked and criminally assaulted a 13-year-old girl in the school’s sickbay. Police and vice squad detectives have since kept watch on the school, but it is understood the patrol had been called away to an emergency elsewhere in the district last night.
