MORE BUTTER AND FEWER GUNS
Predicted Policy Of Mr Khrushchev (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 9.30 p.m.) LONDON, April 10. Russia is on the verge of a dramatic switch to a policy of fewer guns and more butter, according to the “Daily Mail.” Reports on the Soviet economy collected by Western experts during the fijst fortnight of Mr Khrushchev’s Prime Ministership suggest that cracking strains have been imposed on Russia’s labour force of 110,000,000 by the effort to launch sputniks, create a super submarine force and equip three million troops. Mr Khrushchev decided before he took on the post of Prime Minister aiid party leader to ease the burden for his underpaid masses, says the newspaper.
