TRAINING OF TEACHERS
; Principal Finds Faults • (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. April 6. The present system of teacher training undoubtedly had its defects. the principal of the Wei- . lington Teachers’ Training College (Mr W. J. Scotti told student teachers yesterday. “The entrance qualification is not really high enough, and it should be raised as soon as possible,- he said. “Our course is too short, the people who enter are probably too young—that is linked with the qualification—too much is attempted in the time, and what is attempted is, on the whole, too shallow.” Mr Scott was addressing representatives of the executives of the student associations in all the j'New Zealand teachers' training colleges. Delegates attended from Ardmore. Wellington. Christchurch, Dunedin, and Palmerston [North. Mr Scott said although the -standard of qualification of those entering teachers' training colleges had fallen, the quality of the students was actually higher than it had been for some time.
