Rose Breaks U.S. 440 Yards Record

(N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) NEWHAVEN (Connecticut). April 6. Murray Rose, ’ of Australia, last night broke the United States 440 yards freestyle record in the national American Athletic Union Indoor swimming championships. He was timed at 4min 21.6 sec. He

beat another Australian, Jon Henricks, by 30 yards. The previous record was 4min 28.1 sec, set in 1951 by John Marshall, of Australia. Rose also won the 1500 metres and 220 yards freestyle races.
