JOCKEY HAS FOUR WINS
J. Garth’s Feat At Wairarapa
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 6. The Woodville trainer-jockey, J. Garth, rode four winners, one of which, Starina, he trains, on the first day of the Wairarapa Racing Club's autumn meeting on Saturday. The winning T.AJ3. double, Peter Baffles and Agathis, paid £43 9s 6d for £l, and the on-course double, Queensland and Starina, paid £238 13s for £l. There was a large crowd and £83,692 was handled by the totalisator. The total turnover oncourse was an Increase of £18,345 on the first day figures for last year. The weather was fine and the tmelc fnßt In the Novice Plate, Belle Vitesse i stumbled near the four furlongs and i a half and went back through the field. The incident was accidental. Passing the five furlongs and a half in the Queen Elizabeth Handicap, Insignus was unable to hold i his position near the front and in dropping back checked Hot Drop and Gold Pin. In the Martinborough Handicap, Warwick, Chateau and Innesfell were hampered when Happy Warrior tugged in under pressure in the straight. Happy Warrior had been last at the three furlongs and a ' half. W. I. Johnson, who rode Happy Warrior, is an apprentice of little experience and he had not offended before. This was taken into account by the Judicial Committee, who severely -reprimanded Johnson. A furlong .and a half after the start of the Nursery Handicap. Swansea (W. D. Wylie) carnet across to the rails and severely checked Powerscourt. Both horses were having their first starts and were well back irf the field. Wylie was cautioned by the committee.
