Polar Aviator Dead
FORT WILLIAM, April 4. S. A. Cheesman. who won an international reputation flying at both ends of the earth, has died in hospital after a short illness. He was 58. He was already a famous Northern Canada bush pilot when he flew in the Antarctic for Sir Hubert Wilkins in 1929. When the Australian explorer set out to hunt for six Russian airmen missing in the Arctic in 1937 he chose Cheesman as pilot. The Russians were never found. I
