RACING DRIVERS’ CLUB
“Members of the New Zealand International Grand Prix are evidently not aware that such a club, based on the British Racing Drivers’ Club, has been in existence for some months," said the secretary of the New ’Zealand Racing Drivers’ Club (Mr B. H. Paton), in Christchurch. Mr Paton was commenting on a Press Association report from Auckland which said the grand prix had approved the setting up of a New Zealand Racing Drivers’ Club. “The club was incorporated on January 3 as a national body, and several of its regional clubs are already in existence in different parts of the country,” said Mr Paton. "The Minister of Transport (Mr Mathison) and many of the country’s leading drivers are among its members." Mr Paton said he had recently written a letter to the secretary of the grand prix (Mr F. C. Perkins) informing him of the progress of the new club. "I asked him to read my letter to the annual meeting of his organisation, but it would appear this was not done. “It is to be hoped that Auckland does not intend to disregard our club, which has been formed at the wish of drivers throughout the country,” said a member of the New Zealand council of the club, Mr W. Darrell.
