Calcuttg Sweep and Regal Stuart, which are engaged to the Queen Elizabeth Handicap at the wairarepa meeting, were the best workers over a distance at Trentham on Thursday. Regal Dignitary and Kirklea were the best sprinters. On the trial grass, which Was fast, Calcutta Sweep (Dixon) was doing, a little better than Finito (Harris), which had the worse of the weights, after seven furlongs to Imin 30 3-ssec, the last three easily to 38 3- Finito is in the Folding Cin>. which he won two years ago. Chattering (Wylie) pulling hard, ran from the seven furlongs to the four to 36 3-ssec with Regal Stuart (Dixon). Chattering, with a slipping saddle then went ahead to reach the half-mile to 49 3-soec, with her companions five lengths astern. Chattering ran from there to the finish to 38sec to complete seven furlongs to a brilliant imin 27 3-ssec, although she was slowing at the finish. Regal Stuart was two lengths behind at the end, and It was an Impressive effort for a stayer. Regal Dignitary took 50sec for an easy half mile, speeding up to the straight to run his last three furlongs in 37sec. He worked keenly, as did Paulo (D. Hepburn) which took 52 2-ssec and 39 l-ssec. Paulo should be hard to beat on Monday. King Lear (Woodham) ran the last half-mile of his work in 51 4Kirklea (Singer) came from the half-mile in 48 4-ssec, the last three furlongs in 37sec. She was not under the usual tight hold, but it was satisfactory work. Bugle Boy was keen to work faster than 15sec to the furlong for the seven furlongs, and completed hla last three to 39 l-ssec. He is to ■tort at Tauherenikau on Monday. On the two-year-old track, Obeyance (Harris) and Hoya (Barber) ran half a mile, the last three furM 4-ssec. Hoya is now a , H? r * er on Saturday. Kings Trust (D. Hepburn) beat Wee Butch (Wylie) after half a mile in 50 l-ssec. the last three furlongs in 36 l-ssee. Cathkin (Singer) ran over the seme ground h) SOaee and 37 4-Saec. Premises entered. Thieves broke a window of the front door of the Empire Express Company, Lid’s, premises at 311 St Asaph street on Wednesday night Two bottles of beer were taken from a cupboard.
