Military Training
Sir.—“lndividualist” says the British take pride in their freedom and they also abolish it. I can't imagine how they have sustained this contradictory state through all these centuries. Again, is his judgment intended to represent Mr Maemillaji as irresponsible or as pretending to impossible .knowledge? Familiar in our own experience is anticipation’s power to determine its future objects with some degree of dependability. We are entitled to confidence that those aensible of the deep urges moving the generations from , the beginning and reflecting habitually among the records of race memory might discern also the outlines of probable patterns to be woven wide across the world. I have never discovered a source of happiness myself in visions of H-bombs popping off around the planet Nevertheless, no wars have yet been prevented by suppressing, the instruments of their conduct; but frequently by beligerent peoples finding good reasons for adopting some other course.—Yours, etc. R.S. April 2. 1858. 1
