DISCUSSION BY PREMIERS
Nash And Menzies ' Meet SYDNEY, April 1. The Prime Ministers of Australia and New Zealand, Mr Menzies and Mr Nash, discussed world problems for several hours in Sydney today. The two leaders met informally and their discussions ranged over many problems of joint concern to Australia and New Zealand Mr Menzies, in a statement issued later, said the talks had followed no formal agenda. "We took the opportunity to discuss current world affairs and matters of joint Australian-New Zealand interest, especially trade questions,” Mr Menzies said. The newly-appointed High Commissioner for New Zealand. Mr F. Jones, was present at the meeting, which took place at Kirribilli, the Federal Government’s guest house for distinguished visitors. The meeting was one of the last official duties of Mr Nash’s tour. Tomorrow morning he and his party will leave by air for Auckland. Antarctic Plan A plan for international control of the Antarctic has been drawn up by Mr Nash. The plan will be discussed at an international conference later this year. Mr Nash revealed this when he reached Sydney from Bangkok last night. He said the conference would probably be attended by eight or nine interested nations, and would be held “somewhere in South-east Asia or the Pacific.” “My idea is that the United Nations or some other international authority should take over control of the Antarctic,” he said. “No nation should be barred from using the continent, and there should be complete freedom there. Antarctica should never be used for hostilities.” Mr Nash said that so far his plan had received good support from all interested nations, especially those which had already landed in the Antarctic.
