LOSS OF COBAR

Police Inquiries Continue Investigations into the loss of the Chathams Islands refrigerated vessel Cobar, which caught fire and sank near Port Hutt, on the Chathams’ coast, are being continued by Detective-Sergeant E G. Ward, of the Christchurch C. 1.8., who has made a special visit to the island for this purpose. A Government department spokesman said by radio telephone yesterday that the police were trying to establish the position of the sunken hulk. So far only some few minor fragments of wreckage had been discovered on the coast. These had given no clue to the position of the sunken ship. The Cobar, which was for many years well known as a Wellington harbour ferry, was taken to the Chathams to serve as a cold store for fish cargo. It caught alight at its moorings about three weeks ago. Detective-Sergeant Ward is expected to return to Christchurch by the Port Waikato in about a week. *
